    WSJ: Strong Economy Drove Wages Higher in August as Hiring Heats Up

    August marked the 95th straight month of job growth and with low unemployment and a tight labor market, growing franchises like Hand & Stone are focusing more attention on hiring practices to attract workers for their new franchise openings. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, the massage and facial spa franchise is planning to open 55 to 60 new locations and needs to hire approximately 25 employees for each new location. “Our biggest challenge is finding people,” Todd Leff, CEO of Hand & Stone, told the Wall Street Journal. To address that challenge, the company is offering tuition reimbursement for massage-therapy school grads, training in additional services and has increased wages for some positions.
