Spa experience is not required. We can teach you everything you’ll need to know about the spa industry during our franchise training. Instead, we look for hardworking entrepreneurs, generally with a background in sales or management. Hand & Stone franchisees are natural leaders who can motivate their team, make marketing decisions, handle operations and finances, and be the face of their franchise.
We want to be sure that you have the resources you need to build your business. To franchise with Hand & Stone, candidates are required to have a minimum net worth of $750,000 and a minimum of $150,000 liquid assets. That requirement may be higher if you’re interested in a multi-unit agreement.
The profitability of your franchise and the amount of time it takes you to break even relies on a number of different factors, many of which vary by franchisee. With that said, Item 19 of our financial disclosure document (FDD) contains information about gross sale average for our entire franchise system that you may find helpful. You’ll have time to ask plenty of questions about our FDD during the franchise process.
Our franchise process also includes a validation step, during which you’ll have the opportunity to speak with existing franchisees. You’re welcome to ask them questions about their individual unit economics during your validation calls.
Although this can vary from franchisee to franchisee, the process generally takes 8-12 months from signing your franchise agreement to your grand opening. This timeline may be affected by site selection or permit approval.
For the first year of your business, you’ll be responsible for a 5% royalty fee, 4% local advertising fee, and 1% national advertising fee. After your first year in business, your royalty will increase to 6%.
Not necessarily, but we do prefer that our franchise owners take a proactive role at their franchise. If this doesn’t seem feasible for you, or if you’re interested in how to be a hands-on operator with a multi-unit agreement, please let us know. We’ll be happy to talk through your options.
Hand & Stone is pleased to provide best-in-class training to all of our franchisees. Prior to your grand opening, you’ll attend Hand & Stone University for five days of classroom training. You’ll also receive real world experience in a current Hand & Stone franchise location, where you’ll learn the daily functions of our spas. During your pre-opening week, our operations will be onsite help set up your business and train your staff.
