Do you experience lower back pain after sitting for extended periods of time? Your pain could be from a tightiliotibial (IT) band. The IT band begins at the ilium (the hip bone) and crosses down along the side of the thighs, over the knee joint and attaches to the tibia bone. After long periods of sitting at a desk or a table, your IT band may tighten and cause pain in your lower back.
Hand & Stone Massage Therapist, Cate, shows you how to do a simple stretch to loosen up your IT band after sitting for a long period of time.
Place your feet flat on the floor.
Cross your ankle over your knee.
Lean forward, bending at your hips, and try to touch the floor.
Hold this pose for 10-15 seconds
to deepen the stretch.
Return to a seated position and repeat a few times for maximum relief.
Repeat on the other side.
Follow this great at-home stretch to
tide you over until we can see you again.
